Red River Valley Association
Strategic Plan
Executive Summary
MISSION:
The Red River Valley Association's mission is to promote, support, encourage and assist in the development of the land and water resources within the Red River Basin to the beneficial use of all area citizens. This will be accomplished through the strength of its membership, effective political pressure and knowledge of the various systems and procedures to obtain federal, state and local support.
OBJECTIVES:
The RRVA's objectives are to promote, encourage and assist in the development of the Red River Valley and those of its tributary streams by:
Constructing those water infrastructure improvements that protect adjacent lands from overflow, permanently establish the regiment of the river, and prevent the caving and underscoring of the banks.
Enhancing the drainage systems and control the effects of flooding, as well as agricultural related projects, throughout the region.
Completing navigation improvements upon the Red River and its tributaries.
Enhancing water quality.
Encouraging hydroelectric facilities where necessary and economically justified.
Aiding in environmental enhancement efforts such as reforestation, wetland preservation, and wildlife and aquatic refuge construction.
Aiding in the construction of recreation waterways and facilities.
Promoting overall economic development of the region.
SUMMARY:
The RRVA was founded in 1925 as a not for profit, membership organization and remains as that today. With lobbying as its primary function its strength is from the voice of its members. Information is a powerful tool and the RRVA will insure its membership, the public, the media and congressional interests are educated and kept informed. Through these efforts will continued success be realized.
FUTURE:
In looking to the future the RRVA will take a two prong approach. While maintaining its traditional role of lobbying for development funding through Congress, the Association will take on an economic development mission to ensure the potential of this region is realized. It is through these two roles that the RRVA will continue to serve the interests of all the citizens in the Red River region.
STRATEGIC PLAN:
This strategic plan is a comprehensive document which will ensure the continued development of the land and water resources. It will guide and promote the success of the Association and guarantee opportunities for the citizens of the region into the 21st century.
